The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) is the nodal ministry under the Government of India responsible for the formulation of national policies and programs for the development and regulation of civil aviation in the country.
It oversees the growth of air transport services, infrastructure development of airports, and ensures the safety, security, and efficiency of air travel across India.
The Ministry supervises organizations involved in air navigation, airport operations, airline management, and aircraft manufacturing. Its mandate extends to international civil aviation cooperation, promoting investment in aviation infrastructure, and ensuring that India’s aviation sector remains competitive and safe.
It functions through several autonomous and attached organizations, including:
- Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)
- Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS)
- Airports Authority of India (AAI)
- Pawan Hans Ltd.
- Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi (IGRUA)
The Ministry also implements key initiatives such as UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik), aimed at regional connectivity and affordable air travel for citizens.
