Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES)

🏛️ Description

The Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) is a scientific and research-oriented ministry under the Government of India, responsible for providing services related to weather, climate, ocean, and seismology. It plays a central role in understanding Earth systems and improving India’s resilience to natural hazards, environmental changes, and climate variability.

Established in 2006, the Ministry brings together multiple scientific disciplines under one umbrella to deliver reliable information for disaster preparedness, agriculture, fisheries, water resources, and renewable energy. It provides real-time weather forecasts, early warnings for cyclones and tsunamis, and scientific advice for sustainable ocean and atmospheric development.

Through its research institutions, MoES advances India’s capabilities in ocean exploration, polar research, and high-performance computing for climate modeling.
