🏛️ Description
The Ministry of Planning is a central ministry under the Government of India responsible for the formulation, coordination, and monitoring of development policies, plans, and programs for national growth. It ensures that all sectoral and regional plans align with the broader socio-economic objectives of the government and contribute to sustainable and inclusive development.
The Ministry plays a crucial role in long-term and medium-term planning frameworks, data-driven decision-making, and performance monitoring of central and state programs. It also works closely with NITI Aayog, the premier policy think tank of India, which replaced the Planning Commission in 2015, to promote cooperative and competitive federalism.
The Planning Ministry continues to serve as a key coordinating body for strategic policy inputs, resource allocation, and achievement of national development goals aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
