Drug Research Laboratories

The scientific backbone that validates, standardizes, and advances AYUSH medicines for safety, quality, and global acceptability.

Nodal Authority: Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India
Parent Councils: CCRAS, CCRH, CCRUM, CCRS; Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine & Homoeopathy (PCIM&H)
Core Role: Phytochemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, standardization, and formulation development.

1. What Are AYUSH Drug Research Laboratories?

Drug Research Laboratories (DRLs) are scientific facilities of the Ministry of AYUSH that study, test, and validate AYUSH medicines, herbs, and formulations. They ensure that traditional medicines are scientifically developed, chemically standardized, clinically supported, and globally acceptable.

In simple words: DRLs are where AYUSH medicines are tested for safety, purity, and efficacy—bringing ancient wisdom and modern science together.

2. Objectives

GoalDescription
🧬 Scientific ValidationEvaluate therapeutic potential and mechanisms of AYUSH drugs.
⚗️ StandardizationUniform quality parameters for raw materials and formulations.
🧪 Pharmacology & ToxicologySafety profiling and dose-range determination.
