The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers is a key ministry under the Government of India, responsible for the development, regulation, and promotion of India’s chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and fertilizer industries.
It plays a vital role in ensuring the availability of essential fertilizers and medicines to farmers and citizens across the nation, supporting both agricultural productivity and public health.
The Ministry also promotes domestic manufacturing, attracts investment, ensures quality standards, and encourages innovation and sustainable practices in the chemical and pharmaceutical sectors.
The Ministry operates through three main Departments:
- Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCPC) – promotes chemical and petrochemical industries.
- Department of Fertilizers (DoF) – ensures timely supply of fertilizers and supports sustainable fertilizer use.
- Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) – develops and regulates the pharmaceutical industry and ensures affordable medicines for all.
