The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is one of the most vital ministries of the Government of India, entrusted with ensuring the country’s defence and national security. It is responsible for policy formulation, planning, coordination, and execution related to India’s armed forces, defence production, and national security preparedness.
The Ministry oversees the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force—the three pillars of India’s defence services. It formulates policies for defence procurement, modernization of the armed forces, defence research, and the welfare of service personnel and veterans. Through its various departments and organizations, the MoD aims to maintain India’s strategic readiness and promote indigenous defence manufacturing under the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision.
The Ministry plays a central role in shaping India’s defence diplomacy, strategic partnerships, and participation in international peacekeeping and security efforts.

- Ensuring welfare, pension, and rehabilitation for ex-servicemen and their families.
