🏛️ Description

The Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) is the nodal ministry of the Government of India for building a skilled workforce and nurturing an entrepreneurial ecosystem. It designs policies and programmes that expand high-quality skilling, upskilling and reskilling, strengthen apprenticeship, and catalyse job creation through industry-aligned training and entrepreneurship support.

MSDE leads the Skill India Mission through national frameworks, digital platforms, standards and certifications, working with industry bodies, Sector Skill Councils, States/UTs and training partners to ensure employability in India and abroad.

🎯 Mandate

  • Formulate national policy, standards and frameworks for skill development and certification.
  • Expand apprenticeship and work-based learning; strengthen ITIs and National Skill Training Institutes.
  • Run large-scale schemes for short-term skilling, RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) and upskilling.
  • Enable entrepreneurship development, incubation and credit facilitation for new enterprises.
  • Advance international mobility and global placements via harmonised standards.
  • Drive digital skilling, career services and labour-market information through unified portals.
  • Quality assurance and regulation through a national regulator and common qualifications framework.
