About the Scheme
The Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) is the Government of India’s flagship program to achieve “Har Khet Ko Pani” (Water to Every Field) and improve water use efficiency in agriculture.
The scheme integrates all irrigation-related efforts and water conservation measures under a single umbrella, ensuring that every farm receives adequate irrigation and every drop of water is used effectively.
Goal: To expand cultivated land under assured irrigation, improve on-farm water use efficiency, and promote water conservation and sustainable agriculture.
🧭 Objectives
- To extend the coverage of irrigation (“Har Khet Ko Pani”).
- To improve on-farm water use efficiency for “More Crop per Drop.”
- To promote sustainable water conservation practices.
- To integrate water sources, distribution, and field-level applications efficiently.
- To enhance the adoption of precision irrigation technologies like drip and sprinkler systems.
🧾 Key Features
- Integrated Approach: Convergence of water management activities from various ministries.
- Decentralized Planning: Implemented through District Irrigation Plans (DIPs) and State Irrigation Plans (SIPs).
- Four Major Components:
- Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP): Completion of ongoing major/medium irrigation projects.
- Har Khet Ko Pani (HKKP): Command area development, water harvesting, groundwater recharge.
- Per Drop More Crop (PDMC): Micro-irrigation (drip/sprinkler) systems for efficient water use.
- Watershed Development: Rainwater harvesting, soil moisture conservation, and reforestation.
- Technology Integration: Satellite-based monitoring, mobile apps for field data, and geo-tagging of assets.
- Focus on Convergence: Links with MGNREGA, RKVY, and other rural development programs.
