Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI)

🏛️ Description

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) is the nodal ministry of the Government of India for developing a modern, competitive, and sustainable food-processing ecosystem. It works to reduce post-harvest losses, add value to agri-produce, improve farmer incomes, enhance food safety/quality, and expand India’s domestic and export markets through infrastructure, technology upgradation, and skilling.

The Ministry catalyses private investment, supports MSMEs and startups, and promotes integrated value chains via mega food parks, cold chain & logistics, processing clusters, and branding/marketing assistance.

🎯 Mandate

  • Formulate and implement policies and schemes to strengthen the food-processing sector end-to-end (farm-gate to consumer).
  • Create processing infrastructure (mega food parks, integrated cold chains, primary processing & preservation units).
  • Support MSMEs and micro-enterprises through credit-linked grants, technology upgradation, branding, and market linkages.
  • Promote value addition, reduction of wastage, and efficient supply chains for perishables.
  • Facilitate research, innovation, and human-resource development (centres of excellence, skilling).
  • Strengthen quality, standards, and food-safety culture across the value chain.
  • Encourage exports and investment, including through cluster-based approaches and PLI-linked initiatives where applicable.
